If we could summarise in one word what matters to us, it would simply be ‘people’ — we are built on a strong foundation of 'people first' and pride ourselves on the personal touch. We are a family company and despite our growth, these traditional values are at the heart of all we do.
We strongly believe in giving back to the local community. We make several donations to local charities every year, most recently this year we have donated to 10 local schools, the salvation army, a children’s hospice and we make weekly donations to the local food bank. Plus we have sponsored a local Macmillan cancer support nurse for 3 years. We also like to encourage employees' individual fund-raising which Pickering matches £ for £. Additionally, we sponsor local charity events such as the Pier to Pier walk for St Helena hospice and public art events such as the Octopus Ahoy project.
We believe in giving you the tools and knowledge to develop both professionally and personally. Many of our employees’ education is funded by Pickering, such as HND’s and professional qualifications. We have various training opportunities, in-house and externally, which are available for all employees. Line managers are given training in people skills, as well as mental health awareness so they can support their teams as much as possible. We are also keen for our employees to develop their personal skills, employees recently asked for Japanese lessons which we are happily providing.
We have a responsibility to look after employees' physical and mental health. It is important for us that our employees know they have our support if they experience difficulties. We have five qualified mental health first aiders who meet monthly to discuss ideas on how we can support our employees. They have also been trained in how to support employees living with domestic abuse. We have a wellbeing programme, corporate membership at the local spa and hotel, occupational health and monthly mindfulness session. We have a wellbeing calendar, in which various topics are promoted each month. Our recent topic ‘International day of happiness’ involved us buying lunch for everyone and celebrating our happiness heroes. We are always open to more suggestions on how we can support our employees

I have worked at Pickering Interfaces for almost 3 years as a test technician, I love being part of the Pickering family. Since I joined I’ve been given the most amazing support, including supporting me through finishing my HNC & NVQ qualifications, alongside working full time. This was something that I had already started before joining the company and was important to me that I completed. Pickering allowed me to do a day release to continue my studies and funded the remaining amount of my education whilst providing me a full-time wage for working 4 days a week for 8 months. The support all the way through was second to none. Since then I have been given numerous opportunities, being put on projects aside from my day-to-day duties to continue to progress and be a part of exciting new developments within the business.
Test Technician, Pickering Interfaces
I began working at Pickering in 2014 as a technician after completing my Level 3 City & Guilds in Electronics. I have received generous support from Pickering over the last 7 years with full training and the opportunity to progress within the company. Whilst working full time I was also given the support that allowed me to complete my HNC & HND qualifications. I have now progressed from technician to technical engineer and become a core member of the design and development team working on all matters relating to the function of new or existing products.
Technical Engineer, Pickering Electronics
I have worked at Pickering for 21 years and I am very grateful for the support, care and generosity that has been given to me. I was at the co-op for 10 years before coming here and it was the best decision I ever made, I could not be happier. Pickering is a company like no other, very accommodating, nothing is too much trouble and they make you feel appreciated, I look forward to another 21 years!
Production Operative, Pickering Electronics
I joined Pickering in 2013 and have never been disappointed in that decision. Being a family-owned company, they are all about taking care of their employees and putting family first.
The company has grown quite a bit since I joined and I don't see it slowing down. And even with that growth, the dedication to their employees hasn't changed. Always willing to listen to your ideas and let you develop your career with training and education.
I would recommend working here to anyone looking for a positive work environment, great management and a place where you can bring your ideas to life.
Marketing Communications Manager
I joined Pickering in 1987 working in production. Right from the go, everyone was very friendly. Over the next few years, I continued my training in most of the departments in production and later I was asked if I would be interested in progressing to an office position. In 2006 I was promoted to Purchasing Manager and then later to Supply Chain Manager.
Pickering is a very successful company, with a good reputation as an employer. Personally, Pickering has supported me throughout my career, the company has grown significantly but has still kept its family values, that is important to me.
Supply Chain Manager, Pickering Electronics
When I began working for Pickering in 2005 on a temporary part-time contract, I was a single mother with two children under 5. As a result of the family-friendly policies, I was soon able to take up a full-time management role with the company. Being fully supported and having flexibility around my family commitments, I was able to progress within the company, and am still here 16 years later heading up the IT systems for the whole Pickering Group.
