Summary:
Pickering Interfaces is an established company developing next-generation test and measurement products for the automotive, aerospace, energy, and semiconductor industries. Pickering has a world-wide presence with design centers in the UK, Czech Republic and the US. We are currently looking for a PCB Designer for our US-based design center.
The PCB Designer will be involved in many aspects of the product development life cycle: PCB mechanical modelling for new concepts, PCB layout for prototypes and new products, sustaining the PCB supply chain and working with suppliers. The candidate will participate in hardware and mechanical design reviews and have the opportunity to get further involved with the hardware development team. The candidate will work closely with other PCB Designers and experienced electronic engineers on complex designs.
Essential Functions:
Key responsibilities will include:
- Contribute to new product concepts requiring PCB mechanical models and costing
- Working with multiple PCB fab suppliers on stackups, blind and buried vias, cost, etc.
- Designing PCBs to meet product requirements, PCB fab costs, and Assembly
- Holding PCB Reviews with PCB supplier, Assembly, and internal engineering team
- Qualifying multiple PCB fab suppliers based on capability, cost and delivery
- Delivering PCB Fab drawing, Gerbers, Drill files, ODB files, and PCB Assembly drawing
- Minor schematic updates and PCB revisions as needed, working with lead engineer
- Managing schematic libraries and PCB component libraries
- Mentoring other PCB designers and working with a diverse team in multiple locations
- Following company PCB design procedure
Desired Experience
- At least 10 years industry experience in PCB design/layout, 5 years of Altium experience
- Experience with at least 4 different PCB designs of 10 layers or more
- Experience with Altium: multi-channel, rooms, hierarchical design, constraints manager
- PCB design for DDR3/DDR4 memories up to 800MHz, or similar high speed memory
- PXIe, USB3/4 or similar CML signaling with speeds up to 8Gbps
- BGA experience of 0.8mm pitch or less, escape routing strategies for large IO devices
- Using Blind and buried vias, via in pad, trace thickness/pitch down to 2mils/2mils
- Solid understanding of the electrical properties of vias and their fabrication constraints
- Solid understanding of impedance calculations and signal crosstalk
- Mechanical modeling of components in Altium, developing custom models
- Excellent IT/computer skills and a willingness to learn new tools as they become relevant
- Good organizational and multi-tasking skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skills
- Flexibility and ability to self-start on new challenges, problem-solving
