ROLE PURPOSE
Reporting to the Mechanical Design Department Manager, the Design Engineer is responsible for carrying out the duties of the Mechanical Department, within the Pickering Group, including design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, estimating and process improvement. The expectation for this role is that the candidate will grow and develop into an independent Designer working on many projects.
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop innovative mechanical products and systems, from concept to execution.
- Design and analyse mechanical and electromechanical systems, including 3D CAD modelling and simulation.
- Oversee the development process to ensure it meets the requirements and timelines.
- Perform product testing and troubleshoot design failures.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including other design engineers and project managers.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and drawings for design projects.
- Mentor and train junior design engineers on technical and design aspects.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field or experience as a mechanical designer, preferably in a product-based industry.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, material and standards
- Proven track record of developing and delivering successful mechanical products and systems
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
- Experience in a broad range of skills, including design for Manufacturability, tolerance analysis and cost optimisation
- Strong design skills in 3D CAD modelling simulation and other relevant software
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience using SolidWorks CAD software
- Experience using Solidworks PDM
- Experience using CircuitWorks CAD software
- Experience using routing & cable design
- Experience with sheet metal design
- 3D printing
- Understanding of CNC sheet routing limitations and capabilities
- Electronic or PCB design
