ROLE PURPOSE
You will be working within an engineering team dedicated to the development of the production and manufacturing processes at Pickering Electronics. You will have particular experience in PLC programing and preferably some knowledge of Python, C++ as well as with industrial/co-operative robots and appropriate safety standards. The team works across our two production sites, in the UK and Czechia, to maintain and produce solutions to our specific production requirements.
This will provide you with the opportunity to apply your technical expertise, creativity, and problem-solving skills across multiple disciplines. To achieve this you will be collaborating with various departments, sharing skills, conducting research, and actively communicating to facilitate the continuous improvement of production processes.
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop software for bespoke machinery developed in house. These will combine off the shelf components as well as bespoke equipment designed and developed by yourself and the team.
Automation Design and Development: Working closely with all members of the technical and engineering teams across the UK and CZ sites, you will develop innovative automation concepts and designs. Your creativity and problem-solving skills will be essential in prototyping and iterating automation ideas to optimise processes and improve efficiency.
Integration of Automation Systems: You will collaborate within the cross-functional team which includes mechanical, electrical, software engineers and technicians, to integrate the automation systems into the existing production line. This includes ensuring compatibility, troubleshooting integration issues, and optimizing the performance of solutions.
Testing and Validation: Ensure functionality, safety, and reliability of the implemented automation solutions. You will perform trial runs, collect and analyse results, and make necessary adjustments or modifications to achieve desired outcomes.
Continuous Improvement: You will need to continuously research new technologies and approaches to enhance the manufacture of reed relays. Communicate within the company to identify production problem areas, gather feedback and use this information to propose modifications or upgrades to existing processes in order to improve efficiency and quality.
Documenting the processes developed as well as the product being produced. Including keeping drawings and models of machinery and product up to date.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor degree in an electronics, software, control or other engineering discipline. However, equivalent industry experience will also be considered.

PLC programming (Siemens Tia portal experience preferable).
Mechanical engineering and design experience.

Good understanding of 3D CAD software (Solidworks preferable).
Understanding of basic electronics.
Software and programming skills.
Experience with robots, cobots, associated software & interfacing.
Knowledge of general engineering practices and tooling.
